“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were
written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the
scriptures might have hope.” ~Romans 15:4
Our Education Classes at WHUMC offer fellowship and study opportunities
for all ages. We invite you to experience the joy of studying God’s word
along with other travelers on their faith journey.
Children’s Division
Our Nursery offers a loving, safe, and welcoming environment for
children from birth through age four to learn about and worship God. We
engage the children in many ways including prayer, Bible lessons,
stories, music, dance, and crafts.
Our One Room Sunday School is for children in kindergarten through grade
five. Our engaging and creative programs allow children to study, learn
and grow together as they apply Bible lessons to everyday life. Here
children learn about Jesus and his love as they “live” their belief in
God and develop faith that will last a lifetime.
Youth Division
Our Middle and Senior High School Sunday School classes are an essential
part of the faith experience. These classes are led by a variety of
caring knowledgeable adults who interact with the youth in a variety of
settings (not just the classroom). The lesson plans deal with issues
important to youth as well as Bible study with a heavy emphasis on
interaction and discussion.
Confirmation Classes are offered to our youth age 12 and older who wish
to be confirmed in the United Methodist Church. They participate in an
8–12 week series of classes led by our
Pastor along with Lay Leaders and adult mentors. This
class deals
with what it means to be a Christian and a United Methodist in the world
today.
Adult Division
Wednesday Night Bible Study: This class has worked through 17 books of the Old Testament and will now shift focus to the New Testament beginning with Matthew. In this study group there are five teachers who take turns leading sessions. Each leader offers a unique approach to Scripture and lessons.
Family Relations Class: This intimate class meets in a comfortable homelike setting at the Church to study and discuss contemporary Christian books. These books are often on the bestsellers list or written by well-known authors. The class leans heavily on discussion and does not rely upon a teacher to dictate the flow of the class content.
Women’s Study Group: Esther Class
In this class we explore the
Bible and the practical application of God’s word in our lives with a
series of Christian Women’s studies. We have followed Paul’s journey of
faith as Jesus captures Paul’s soul. With authors Beth Moore, Kay
Arthur, and Priscilla Shirer we dig deeply
into
the history of Bible stories and we learn how these stories are
applicable today in our own contemporary lives.

Barr-None Class: Our longest running class utilizes the New International Lesson Series. This highly regarded Bible study series gives insight into Scripture, including stories and anecdotes that help to make lessons come alive. The weekly study suggests ways to put lesson concepts into action.
Four very knowledgeable teachers lead this class and each one brings a unique perspective and a different approach to each lesson.
Pathfinders Class:
For a small group setting for both male and female adults try the
Pathfinders Class. This class appeals to all ages. The core structure of
this class is tied to the Christian seasons including Lent and Advent
curriculums as well as a strong focus on Bible history. Teaching is
shared among several class members.
.
Sojourners Class: This class provides a larger classroom
environment while retaining a strong sense of fellowship among the
members. This group studies and discusses a variety of subjects
including in-depth study of Bible passages, interesting topics found in
Christian books as well as discussing contemporary issues. Recently the
group finished studies on “The History of the Devil” and “What Every
Church Member Should Know about Poverty.” Teaching is shared among
several class members.
Stay Tuned
The Education team has made a strong commitment to offer a variety of
short term studies throughout the course of the year as well. These
studies will last from 4-6 weeks and focus on a particular topic, book,
or season of the Christian calendar. For example, we recently studied “This We Believe, the Core of Wesleyan Faith and Practice”.
We invite anyone interested (even if you are a member of another Sunday
School class) to join us for these sessions. These particular sessions
will be advertised in the Church bulletin, newsletter, and flyers.
